Calcium pantothenate is one of the B vitamins and one of the nutrients necessary for the normal growth of organisms. Calcium pantothenate exists in three forms due to its chiral carbon atom: DL-body (mixed body), D-body (dextral body) and L-body (left-handed body). Only D-calcium pantothenate has biological activity. Appearance is white or yellowish needle-like crystal or powder, melting point 195-196°C (decomposition), soluble in water, methanol, glycerin, slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone, hygroscopic, slightly sweet, but slightly bitter . In terms of chemical stability, it is most stable in aqueous solution with a pH value between 5 and 7, relatively stable in air and sunlight, and poor in acid and alkali.
