Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic, which can completely kill hookworm eggs and whipworm eggs and partially kill roundworm eggs. It can be combined with it at a low concentration, and can inhibit the polymerization of its microtubules by affecting the metabolism of carbohydrates in the worm body and the generation of related energy, causing the disappearance of the epidermis or intestinal cells of the worm body, and can selectively and irreversibly inhibit the worm body from Glucose and other nutrients are taken up in the intestinal tract, which eventually leads to the death of the parasite. It is suitable for the treatment of human and animal infections caused by single or multiple worms such as whipworm, pinworm, hookworm, tapeworm, strongyloides, roundworm, etc., but it is ineffective for echinococcosis. Mebendazole is also an oxidative phosphorylation uncoupler, which can inhibit fumarate reductase in mitochondria, reduce the transport of glucose, and thus affect the production of ATP.
