Chloramphenicol has another name called chloramphenicol, which is a kind of broad-spectrum antibiotic with the effect of inhibiting bacterial growth produced by Streptomyces chloride. Natural chloramphenicol is L-body (also known as levomycin). The synthetic product is white or yellowish needle-like or flaky crystal, odorless, extremely bitter taste, slightly soluble in water, ether and chloroform, easily soluble in methanol, alcohol, acetone or ethyl acetate, insoluble in benzene and petroleum ether. It is relatively stable in neutral or weakly acidic aqueous solution, and it is easy to fail when it encounters alkali. The synthetic product is a racemate, also known as Synmycin. Synthromycin is a mixture of L- and D-forms of chloramphenicol. Because the dextrorotary form has no antibacterial effect, the curative effect of synmycin is only half of that of natural products.
