Tianeptine has been in use for a few decades as an effective treatment for depression. Still, a certain controversial fact has emerged in 2014. It’s triggered its ban in several in several countries including the UK.

A 2014 study found that tianeptine is a mu-opioid receptor full agonist. This explains its opioid-like effects which mostly occur when taking extremely high doses.
