What's Osthole？

Osthole is a substance extracted from the fruit of the annual herb Cnidium chinensis of Umbelliferae. The appearance is yellow-green to white crystalline powder, insoluble in water and cold petroleum ether, easily soluble in acetone, methanol, ethanol, chloroform , chloroform, ethyl acetate, soluble in boiling petroleum ether, has antispasmodic, lowering blood pressure, antiarrhythmic, enhancing immune function and broad-spectrum antibacterial effects. Clinically, it is mainly used to treat male impotence, scrotum wet itching, female vaginal itching, cold uterus infertility, rheumatic arthralgia, scabies and eczema, and trichomonal vaginitis. Osthole can also be used as a field insecticide and fungicide, mainly with contact action and supplemented by stomach poisoning. The liquid medicine enters the insect body through body surface absorption, acts on the nervous system of the pest, and causes non-functional muscle contraction of the pest. It eventually dies of exhaustion, and has good contact killing effect on various pests such as cabbage caterpillar, tea looper, cotton bollworm, beet armyworm and various aphids.
